The week so far at TSA

I've been to four classes so far this week.  Tomorrow in painting I'm expecting to copy an Old Master landscape.  I'll see how that goes.  Also I want to get back to the open drawing sessions.  I didn't make anything in Art History this week but we did manage to clarify what our project is meant to be.  I'm going to work on something related to the Tale of Genji.

In Collage I did a woven picture from two head shots of Bryn Terfel -- one in costume as Wotan in Das Rheingold.  Then we were supposed to add perspective or space to a collage -- either interior or exterior -- because collage is often so flat.  I did something really fast which is a mess.  I want to do another this weekend.

In Colour & Composition I managed to finish a few exercises so that I'm only one week behind -- but it's a big week and I have a lot to do this weekend to catch up.

In Life Drawing today we warmed up with 30 second, 1 minute and 3 minute poses using the three colour method.  I missed the pelvis last week but did my best.  Here are a few samples.

Then to shake it up we did a few blind contour drawings.  The first was double blind in that we couldn't see the subject (our own head) or our drawing hand.  With eyes closed we drew the outline of our head from neck to chin following a line traced by our other hand.  Anyone with an Easter-Island-like result (like mine) probably lost focus at some point.  Then we did a blind drawing of our own hand -- with our drawing hand covered.  Then a contour drawing of the model with concentration on a slow line rather than proportion.

Then we worked on heads using a series of steps including eggs, triangles and angles.
