Portrait Drawing

Our topics this week were noses and lips.  Unfortunately I'll miss eyes and ears when I'm in Scotland next week.  Not to worry since the teacher catches you up at the next class.  Here are some from today.  Yes, all the same model -- getting a likeness is a thing in progress!  At least I can say that the last one of the day looks most like her.

Journal sketching

For journal sketching this week we met at Kensington Market.  The teacher wanted us to focus on drawing people which was not easy -- people do not stand still.  After a while we headed south in a bit of rain and stopped at the Dragon City Mall at Spadina and Dundas.  On an upper level we had a great view of people on a bench below us.

Colour Wheel

We have a different colour wheel in acrylics class.  A lot different from the one in Colour & Composition last year.  For one thing, the new one has 6 primaries!  I like it a lot.  Now I have 10 pages of colour mixes to do.

Portrait Drawing

I'm enjoying the portrait drawing class.  I enjoy the challenge.  Here are a couple from the second class.

Journal sketching

The journal sketching class was postponed a week because of low enrollment but we started yesterday.  The teacher is a last minute replacement who is good and very enthusiastic.  He gave us a list of all the places we will be visiting to draw -- places like Kensington Market, Harbourfront and the Riverdale Zoo.  For our first class we walked to 2 local art stores and drew along the way.  Here are a couple sample pages (in very poor photos.)

Time

The flow of time.  The flow of life.  And blocks of separate time.
Blocks to the flow?  Interruptions in the flow?  Scary.

Fundamental acrylics

I had my first class in Fundamental Acrylics.  It's going to be a demanding class full of great new information and experience.  Our first exercise was making value charts using 9 mediums (like "Regular Gel Gloss" and "Matt Medium" and etc.) and black paint.  Here are pages I've done so far.

Portrait Drawing

The TSA fall term starts this week.  My course selection is still up in the air due to low enrollment but I found out today that 3 of my 4 chosen courses will go ahead.  Portrait drawing today was first.  We started with basics -- head structure, basic proportion and light & shadow.  Here are a few I did.

Perspectives

I've made the title plural for multiple perspectives.  This is the drawing now.  I don't want to muck with it much more in case I wreck it.

Perspective

I'm thinking now of making the title of the second drawing Perspective.  I was also thinking of adding a drawing of a house on top of the whole thing but I'm afraid of ruining it.  This is what I have so far.  It's still taped to the drawing board.  I'm not finished yet.

Various rooms

I've been working on the second drawing for the summer intensive.  I'm trying to make layers of floor plans and self-portraits.  This is what I have so far -- very early stages.  I want the final drawing to be loose and as free as possible.  Much more like the quick sketch where I started.
